Trying to Leave La Paz
18 December 2011 | Cold....but that's all Relative
Capt Rich
We had planned to get out of La Paz and spend Christmas on the mainland in warmth, but since we have some good friends here in La Paz it just seemed crazy to hurry off when the mainland will still be there when we eventually do decided to pull anchor. We will just have to continue to wear socks...oh the horror.
We dropped anchor in La Paz back on July 9th when we crossed over from Mazatlan and here we are 5 months later, with being cold as the only real reason we have to leave. But cold is relative, as the 4 inches of snow I experienced on my recent trip to Niagara Falls, NY reminded me. I know I say this about most of the places we have visited in Mexico, but it's true, I could easily live here! Then it hits me...we DO live in all these places. Seeing all the cruisers come and go gives you the feeling like you are missing something by not moving along at the typical fast pace of anchor down, provision up, walk the town, check it off the list and then move onto the next town. It's when we slowed down that we really started to enjoy our time out here and got to know the towns and more importantly the people in them.
Right now the Honda generator is purring away on deck heating up some hot water so the crew can take a shower, certainly not something we would have wanted to do back in July, but here in December a hot shower sure feels good and is a perfectly acceptable use of our Honda when it's cold.
We will eventually get to the mainland, and then we will have just as hard of time leaving it when the time comes. Where we are seems to be where we want to be.
