Back on April 14th 1914, the Battle of Topolobampo, Mexico was the first naval-air skirmish in history when pilot Gustave Salinas Camina used his biplane to bomb the war ship Guerrero during the Mexican Revolution.
Well, while walking the town's streets this evening in search of a taco cart, I never would have guessed that anything much ever happened in this small little Mexican town. It is a major shipping port that just underwent an expansion to let it move more cargo and we can see the difference from our first stop here in Dec of 2009. It also shows the power of the internet when even the smallest towns have more than you could possible ever want to know about them listed on the internet!
One of the things that is different is the Marina Palmira. It was under construction when we were here last in Dec of 2009 and it's now completely up and running. You can see THIRD DAY at anchor off of the marina, of course because, well anchoring is free!
Lori stayed on the boat to rest while the kids and I headed into town today in search of a taco. The ones we had were "ok" but I do have to admit we are pretty picky when it comes to rating taco carts. Like almost every town in Mexico, everyone wants the tourists dollars. The sign below translates to, "Welcome Tourists. Tourism is Jobs and Progress for everyone".
I have to admit, there are one kind of Tacos I just don't like, "head meat tacos". And as this sign proudly proclaims. "Head Tacos in it's own Juice". You know, I'm sorry but give me carne asada, adobada, or about anything else, but I'm just not a head meat taco fan.
While we wait for the wind to die down so we can cross over to Baja, tomorrow we will take the short bus ride into Los Mochis for some shopping and exploring. We will bring our camera along and will have the kids put together a photo journal entry on the blog about the adventure. But just don't look for me at the Head meat taco carts!
