Awaiting the Ha ha Kick off
25 October 2007 | San Diego, Ca
Capt Rich
THIRD DAY is currently anchored in Glorietta Bay just past the Coronado Bay bridge in San Diego. As we await the Kick off, ash from the Southern California fires is falling on the deck and smoke fills the skies as far as the eye can see. The typically beautiful skyline of San Diego looks pretty gloomy. Sean, our Bildge Rat crew (aka: our internet axe murderer), made the mostly motoring trip with me and he is now lounging on the boat while I head back home for a few more days of work.
Having left my clothes bag in Oxnard, I had the joy of making the trip and spending the last 5 days in a single set of clothes. I did have a stash of clean underwear on the boat and was able to take a few boat showers. I probably used 4 gallons of water in my 3 showers but they were nice none the less! I managed to keep my white, yes white shirt pretty clean until the hot dog BBQ for Crew of the Ha Ha Rally put on by Downwind Marine. I should have never pushed my luck and went for that second chili dog. On the second to the last bite, I had added a chili stain to the various other colors and smudges of my shirt. What a great way to introduce myself to the other boaters in the rally.... a dirty, chili stained shirt! Oh, well, so much for false pretenses. The true Capt Rich made his debut in style and ultimate form. At least my wife wasn't there to suffer the humiliation of being my spouse.
Friday Lori and I will head back to the boat with a car full of provisions and other much needed (???) stuff, which we were told we can't be without on such a cruise. Our second internet crew member, Rick will join us on Sunday and then off we go to Mexico with the other 177 boats registered for this years Baja ha ha. I'm sure we will forget something, but as long as it isn't my clean clothes bag, we will overcome!
