Day Three at Sea

Last night was an uneventful night of motoring in winds of less than 3kts and smooth seas. Lori pulled a double watch from 2100hrs to 0300hrs this morning so that I could get some extra rest. Doug and Joanne are over their first days at sea mal de mar and are now enjoying the trip, eating meals, and doing dishes in the galley, a sure sign of feeling much better. I just put Amy in the shower and Jason will be next followed by Lori when she wakes up from her after breakfast nap.
The oil leak is remaining constant and we only had to add 1qt of oil through the night, so if that holds we should be fine until we reach La Paz and make repairs.
Jason is hot to put out the fishing gear, but the fridge is still packed with yesterday's catch, so he's having to wait just a bit because the fish is best when eaten within 24hrs of catch. There still is a little controversy as to the exact type of tuna we caught yesterday. We landed one Skip Jack, and three tuna. One was at least 15lbs, and was quite a chore to haul onboard. We think they were either "Big eye" of "Blue Fin", but either way, they were fabulous with rice last night for dinner.
140 boats left San Diego at the start of the Baja Ha-ha and unfortunately a few have already had to drop out: some with engine failure, some due to lost steering, and for a few other problems as was reported on the morning net. We did have a few close encounters with large freighters last night which required us to change course, passing within a mile of what looked like a fast moving land mass.
I won't be able to post photos until I'm in Cabo or La Paz and find a good internet connection, so for now, you will just have to believe me when I say the sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous.
Amy just got out of the shower, so I need to go get the hair dryer set up for her and then get Jason into the shower. Getting Jason into the shower may be just as hard as landing that 15lb tuna, but without the blood, we hope.
I'll try and make a second update later this afternoon so until then, keep us in your prayers.
