After bouncing around for a few hours waiting for the wind to fill in, we decided that at $2.50/gal for diesel fuel, we could afford to motorsail for a few hours.

Amy is talking to her friend Miya on the VHF and they are scheduling to talk again on the VHF at 1730hrs. All the kids had a great time in Turtle Bay running around a pristine beach all to themselves, well with about 650 people in the Ha-ha, all to themselves is a relative term.

We lost some frozen chicken today because last night during my radio check-in I turned off the Refrigerator and forgot to turn it back on. This morning I looked up at the breaker panel and thought "hmm, that's interesting, why isn't the refrigerator turned on?" Lori was quite irritated because she had to clean chicken juice out of the bottom of the ice box with some bleach water. Something about the whole crew getting sick, I say she's over reacting, but that's just me, the idiot who had fridge turned off in the first place!

We heard on the VHF net this morning that a boat had lost their mast. It's not that they misplaced it, while out partying in Turtle Bay, it actually came crashing down in the strong winds yesterday. No one was hurt and they are motoring back to Ensenada. It makes our small issues of an oil leak, mutinous SPAM and defrosted chicken seem pretty minor. About the oil leak.. I added 1 ? quarts of oil this morning, which is lower than I wanted to let the oil go down, which means I was a bit complacent in the early morning hours of motoring. Complacency can be deadly on a sail boat over 500nm South of San Diego, so that was first lesson of the morning. The second was to make sure you replace the oil cap on the engine before starting it up and attempting to motor, but unlike the mess I made in the ice box with defrosted chicken, Lori said I have to clean up the oil from the engine and engine compartment myself, damn.

We ran the water maker again today for about 90 minutes and topped off the tanks by making about 67 gallons of aquafina quality water for drinking, showers and rinsing off the boat. That's the joy of a large capacity water maker, if I want to take two showers a day just to cool off and feel good while underway, then like today, I do it!

Today we had two successful boardings by flying fish. The first happened last night and we found him dead on the deck after apparently hitting the dodger. The crime scene investigation team ran by Amy and Jason came to that conclusion by the smudge on the dodger window. The second attempt was more brazen taking place in broad daylight. While Doug was standing at the helm (just standing because the autopilot is now working thanks to Alan's tip) a flying fish smacked him in the leg and flopped around frantically on the cock pit sole pleading for some sort of diplomatic immunity. As Captain and the law on the ship, I denied his request and sent him back into the sea to face the predator that was chasing him. This actually was an act of mercy considering Jason's fishing plans for the day.
