Mazatlan Old Harbor

27 February 2009 | Good-bye Marina´┐Żours was too short a love
Capt Rich
We are comfortably at anchor within the breakwater in the old harbor at Mazatlan. If you have ever cruised to Mazatlan, then your mega-cruise ship passed the anchorage just inside the breakwater to port (left side of the ship). The good thing about the anchorage is that it's free. The bad thing about the anchorage is that it is right next door to the waste water treatment facility for Mazatlan. A waste water treatment facility is a polite way to say a turd processing plant, and from the smell of it here, some of the tourists may have a bad case of Montezuma's Revenge! But putting the smell aside, we are just a short walk from Old Town Mazatlan and some prime attractions, so it's worth the smell when you consider the price!

We will hand out here for maybe a week or so before we head up into the Sea of Cortez and pay a return visit to La Paz, where we will leave THIRD DAY in a marina, rent a car, and drive home for Lori's folks 50th wedding anniversary cruise on March 20th. We have been thinking that the drive from San Diego to La Paz would be perfect for a travel DVD, so we will film the trip there and back. Jason already reminded me that I sill have to finish the Baja Ha-ha DVD, but with spending the summer in the Sea of Cortez, I should have plenty of time for another DVD project (where have I heard that before).

We received our dingy back with the nicest set of dingy chaps I have ever seen and for a price that almost makes me feel guilty! Before we left the dock at Marina Mazatlan we somehow found room for another large piece of equipment for THIRD DAY, a SCUBA compressor! We will now be able to fill our own SCUBA tanks as we spend the summer diving in the Sea of Cortez, which we are pretty excited about! Someone on our dock had the unit for sale after his cruise plans changed. The unit has 0.00hrs on the hour meter and had never even been ran and is in showroom shape. It's powered by a 5.5hp Honda gas engine and can fill one of our tanks in about 20 minutes. Lori is still trying to figure out how I talked her into it and I'm still a little surprised myself at our good luck in finding the new unit at a considerable discount!

Lori and the kids are in the Game Room, AKA, the V-berth watching The Incredibles while I'm typing away at the keyboard. With some additional time to relax, I'll be devoting more time to getting the Baha Ha-ha DVD ready for its May 2009 release date, but I have a pretty bad track record with plans and schedules!

It doesn't look like I'll have internet access out here (maybe a signal will appear in the day) but those wanting to reach us will now have to use the email address, and remember, No attachments, forwards, or large files, or they will be rejected by the server.
