Sadly we said goodbye to Thomas and Brendan and packed them off on the bus to Manapouri across Wilmott Pass then ferry ride accords Lake Manapouri and off to Queenstown. In reverse we were happy to receive Joy this afternoon. Kevin and Charles went ashore and explored after lunch in the rain. We touched base with Billy who effectively runs things around here. We had a cup of tea with him and then explored his workshop spending quite a bit of time looking at his hydroelectric installation - 250m drop down an 18 inch pipe - into a peloton wheel producing 50kw. This produces enough for the local needs of the education trusts hostel and the local sewage treatment plant. They have about 5000 school children per year attend various outdoor activities in Deep Cove.

Everyday we are grateful for the mosquito nets that's Abby made for the Vanuatu Trip. They have allowed us to have our hatches open and keep the squadrons of Sandflies away.
