Soon after we arrived last night in our anchorage, we were joined by the Kahoroa - a 28m Fishing vessel according to the AIS - no doubt sheltering from the weather.
This morning after sharing weather information with Enderby base, they gave us a hail on Channel 16. We had a good long chat to skipper Lindsay - They are in fact a Fisheries Research Vessel and carry a permanent crew of 6 and, on this occasion, have 4 scientists on board. They were in Carnley Harbour at the same time we were but we didn't see them nor they us! I confess he described some serious conditions in that harbour that he has experienced in the past. I think he described wind gusts of 50kts last night so clearly we did well with Camp Cove. The north westerlies are an issue in the harbour and he described three anchorages, that he felt would be useful, that I am going to note here for future reference: Coleridge Bay, Tagua Bay just at the start on North Arm, and at the top of North Arm behind Figure Eight Island. They, of course, are a larger vessel than us and have to anchor in deeper water.
We have been invited for a visit which I am sorely tempted to do. The accompanying picture is of The Kahoroa anchored quarter of a mile off us, seen through mist and rain.
