Hydraulic Anchor Winch
23 April 2011
White Squall's hydraulic anchor winch was built by Smith Bros. in Victoria. The main drum has 50' of 7/16" chain connected to 250 feet of 3/4" Nylon anchor rode. The main anchor is a 30 Kg. Bruce.
The winch also has a gypsy on the side that is often used to send the captain up the mast.
Both the main winch drum and gypsy can be individually controlled and are both variable speed. The winch is specified for 2 tons.
White Squall's Last Haulout
18 April 2011 | Maple Bay, BC
The annual haulout! Not a big problem given the size of the vessel. Just a matter of power washing and repainting the antifouling. As White Squall only has two through hull fittings, greasing and maintenance is not a big problem.
White Squall also has a water cooled refrigerator/freezer. The refrigerator compressor pumps the gas through a sintered bronze heat exchanger mounted just below the waterline. This system is very efficient and given the temperature of our local water, works very well.
