Back in Marsh Harbor
10 March 2011
Expecting a frontal passage
We had a whale of a time last night at the Grabbers pot luck wing ding. There were over 200 in attendance and it could not have been better weather. It was for us a chance to say fair winds and following seas to several boats with whom we have enjoyed these islands and cays. S/V Midnights Sun left the harbor this morning heading west and back to the US. Watching them sail toward the Whale channel was, as it always is with departing acquaintences, bitter sweet. We have been in the company, more or less, of about a dozen boats that arrived in the Islands about the same time as we. The group dispersed after reaching Marsh Harbor but our courses have crossed frequently during our time here. That is the way it has been. It is a relatively small community that seems even smaller once away from the US Atlantic Coast. Arriving at an anchorage is not unnoticed by the boats already there. You might not see anyone topside but you are being observed. It is always good to hear someone we know hailing on the VHF or just yelling out. Sooner or later a visit is in order. This usually comes after the customary thirty minute grace period where friends allow the arriving boat time to get settled.
