SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Dreams in Works

Who: Bear (Jo) and Bligh (Howell) Cooper and Scurv
Port: Port Aransas, Texas
Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

Rock and Roll

24 March 2011 | Fisher's Bay, Great Guana Cay
Lively wind
March 24, 2011
We arrived in Fisher’s Bay around noon yesterday after one spectacular crossing from Hopetown. Again, the winds chose to go elsewhere so the sea was flat and clear. We never get used to looking over the side seeing starfish as we glide over them.
We took a mooring ball about the same time the wind clocked to the WSW and right down the long fetch of the anchorage. Even so, there were a dozen boats or so here bobbing and weaving in the two footers rolling through. Rather than taking a long dinghy ride to shore for the pot luck, we chose to dine aboard. It is certain that all who did go ashore arrived with dinghy butts. That is the term for the round wet spot one gets when sitting on a dinghy in rough water. It is funny to see folks standing around with wet rears.
As Why Knot danced we found it easy to sleep. It is sort of like sleeping in a hammock that rocks fore and aft as well as side to side. That might not sound like a good idea to dirt dwellers but it really is better than most other ways to sleep. It is even better if there is gentle breeze wafting through the overhead hatches which it did last night. The wind today will remain WSW and that means the anchorage will be lively all day. That will add to the difficulty walking on land.
We think we will snorkel the Atlantic side of Great Guana Cay as it is in the lee that is if the water temperature allows it. We were over there yesterday and almost got nipped at Nippers.

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
