There is something about the drive back to the boat, a distance of over 1,400 miles. It gives one time to make the transition from land to water yet it is neither. We don’t do a “death march” type drive across those distances any more. It will take a few days and when we arrive, we will have made the mental jump from land to water. Those that sell the farm and move aboard permanently do it one time. Those, like us that come back to the house from time to time never really cut loose from the house or the boat. When we first get into the car heading either direction, it is similar to taking a road trip. Then the reality of the effort molds the thoughts into that of the final destination. The drive is like a halfway house with lots of time to think about what was accidentally left behind and what one needs to take back next trip. The spinnaker that has so many road miles: well, due to trunk space, it now resides in the house. Didn’t make the cut. We still looked like the Clampets going down the road except we were not wearing farm boots. More later.
