After a few days here, having had a few surprise arrivals of some boating friends, we are almost ready to leave this place. Unlike the islands, this is milder cruising due to the availability of stuff, parts, food, etc. Bear and I have done some international travel and as nice as some of the places have been, there is a quiet gratitude and recognition when one crosses into home waters. There is something about having the old passport stamped with the home country stamp. We are looking at mid next week to leave but that is, as always subject to weather and some other things. After an hour or so aboard a friend’s boat last evening, they have departed this place. It is unlikely we will see them again in quite a while. That is the way it goes but it reminds me of a line from an old Gene Hackman movie. It was a combination of Shakespeare and Caesar. “If a man were to know the end of this days business, ere it come, but it suffice that the day will end, and then the end be known. If we meet again, well then we’ll smile, and if not, then this parting was well made.” It sort of sums up the water world.
The picture attached gives one some appreciation for sails.
