SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Who: Bear (Jo) and Bligh (Howell) Cooper and Scurv
Port: Port Aransas, Texas
Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

Little Prick Strikes

June 3, 2011
We actually had a sort of plan today to see some of Beaufort, this being the first time Bear has felt like getting ashore for some extensive tourism in this place. To get the most of the weekend, we decided to rent a roller skate from Enterprise and get an idea about what lies beyond the docks on shore. Enterprise was to meet me at the dock office at 1200 today and we had a plan. I was a bit late getting some boat duties done and had to rush to meet the fellow. At 1200 on the dot, I started to step on the dock steps and noticed just before I stepped on them that they were slightly askew with the dock but were firmly in place for the step over dead center. Just as I made the move, I am certain Little Prick, the boat troll aboard took some tactical action to, at the speed of light, move those steps. There could be no other explanation other than covert action on that critter’s part. I am not sure how it happened other than via perhaps a hidden access port in the hull, but I now feel at the last moment LP moved that dock step just enough so that when I transferred all my petite weight, that dock step rotated and went overboard at the speed of blink. Were it not for my cat-like reflexes, it might have turned out way worse than it did. As it was, there were two casualties. Most of the documents in my wallet will dry and I can save others by retiring them. The main casualty was my new IPhone 4. It was submerged long enough to give Little Prick satisfaction to the max. The war on the ships terrorist is hereby escalated. The witnesses of my gainer into the water have since moved on and there is peace at the dock tonight.

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
