CLOSE TO A PLAN
October 5, 2011
Now that Bear is on the mend, we can redirect some thoughts to Why Knot. While it will be some time before we climb back aboard and resume the cruise, I will be back aboard in a couple of weeks to prepare her for a long winter. She gets new bottom paint and her new prop that has been decorating our Go Box for several weeks. This will ease our concerns about how she has survived our absence. She is still hurricane ready which means the dodger is down and stowed. Perhaps her fenders need air and hopefully rodentia has not invaded below. We are continually impressed with the staff at Wilmington Marine Center. They walk the docks twice daily and actually do keep an eye on their guests. This will be the first time in her existence that Why Knot will be winterized. She will stay in the slip as opposed to on the stands in the yard. I have to believe that being afloat will help keep her above freezing. At any event, there are stores that would not tolerate freezing well. I am guessing that we will remove all of that stuff on the trip. Bear and I plan to climb back aboard around the first of the year and test our foulies in what will be cold weather. So it is that I am doing a countdown until I see Why Knot again.
