Cooling off
Soon, really soon

As an avid reader of very few things, I do enjoy Latitudes and Attitudes magazine in which the editorials are written by Bob Bitchen (really his name). Ole Bob has been around the world a few times aboard sailing vessels and he has a great sense of the reality of such ventures. In the September issue he mentioned the fact that cruising is not necessarily the start or the finish but the “little dash between the dates”. That seems most relevant to our situation because we remember the stuff between the start of the cruise and the yet-to-be-completed date. It has been over three months since we last saw Why Knot. Though she is in good hands at Wilmington Marine Center, we miss her immensely. We miss the gentile movement of the boat at night and the places we visit when we let her out of the barn. Bear is not allowed to travel yet so I will head over to visit WK on Sunday. The goal is to check her vitals and make sure she is snug for the cold soon to be upon her.
The Harvest Moon Regatta is in progress as I write this. It is a race (for some) combined with a cruise to a party at Port Aransas this weekend. We have a dog in the hunt sort of. The boat is S/V Rima captained by a fellow barely two months out of major surgery. Now that is the way to bite the bear. We have monitored the progress of Rima starting yesterday and it looks like she is doing fairly well. The regatta is a 150 plus mile offshore run and it can be a wild ride. Looks like this year is developing into a challenge to get to the party on time. To non-sailors, a race is like watching grass grow. To those of us that are landlocked at the moment it is a catalyst to set off the memories of the sea. It was a full moon night and the reward of such is a view celestial show second to none if the clouds allow. As I write this, it is BMNT (nautical twilight) and soon the sun will push the man in the moon off into the western sky. About now, the on deck watch is hopefully sipping on the coffee. Knowing Rima, the tacos will be most welcomed. Good luck Captain Jack.
