SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Dreams in Works

Who: Bear (Jo) and Bligh (Howell) Cooper and Scurv
Port: Port Aransas, Texas
Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

A Day or Two One Way or the Other

A DAY OR TWO ONE WAY OR THE OTHER
June 8, 2012
Funny how little Fridays mean now that we are both in retirement and living our dream other than the fact that they seem to come every third day now. It is not that we nap the days away since I usually arise around 0530. Bear of course chooses a somewhat later hour. Sometimes the disparity makes for some discussion as to when the best time to hoist the anchor may be. Sometimes, I get that done while she is still hovering in la la land. So, we have noticed that we are now seeing boats with hailing ports south of the Bay whereas before Memorial day we saw only boats from north of here. That meant that they were heading home and the tourists such as we have not yet made it this far north. What difference does that make? For one thing, the traffic is increasing as well as the demand for transient slips, moorings and anchorages. It all started to be apparent after Memorial Day. Could that be when families start the vacation season?
Now that the swim deck wood replacement is done, I am embarked on waxing the boat. Might I mention that I hate that part of boat ownership? Oh yeah! I attempted to do it by hand but decided that the appearance was substandard with spots and inconsistent compounding. So, I decided to use an electric, as in 110 volt kill ya if you drop it, kind of buffer. Ok, if I tie it so if dropped, it will not make the water, perhaps I can get it done without spiking the local grid and getting my name in the local obits. At any rate, the hull is very oxidized and this will not be a quick job. So, if I can motive myself and if Scurv will cut me some slack on the supervision, perhaps in a few days, Why Knot will look spiffy.

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
