SANDY H MINUS TWO
October 27, 2012
Looks as though Sandy will make an attempt to add more experience marks to Why Knot but we have spent the day to minimize that potential. For some crews the preparation meant removing all the sails and all the windage gear such as dodges and biminis. We will wait to do that until the storm gets closer. Who knows, it might just take a right turn and go away. Yeah, right.
Hurricane Irene hit this area a year or so ago and the water at this marina came above the docks two feet. We are rigging Why Knot for at least that much surge. If that happens, the power will be off (dock plugs underwater). We will operate the boat as if we are at anchorage and use our solar panels and generator to keep foods and run the boat. The models are starting to converge on a landfall north of here between 80 to 200 miles late Monday night. Storm force winds extend over 660 miles in diameter. Hopefully, being on the left side of the storm might minimize the winds significantly.
