SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

Two weeks: that was the original idea almost a year ago when we sailed around the headland and found this place. That leaves a bit over two weeks to get things in order aboard. The "to do" list is not that long but it could grow some. We have a few things to complete before we set sail but that also leaves some time to sit and attempt to finalize a mind's eye photo of this place . Between the boat projects and the frequent naps comes somewhat loose observations of the harbor. A week ago, a certain object sailed past our slip on the tidal current. I thought it would be gone once into the main channel. Not so. The object is a large, intact fish carcass about 10 pounds. I cannot tell what fish it is other than large round with big scales. It floats butt up. Each day it sails by our boat at least two times that we see. (Worthless trivia: one high and one low tide each day is a diurnal tide whereas two highs and two low tides are semi-diurnal tides) Solomons sees two highs and two lows so it is difficult to predict just how many times the fish passes by. I have been thinking about helping it on its way to the food chain but it has not sailed close enough to poke with the dock pole. Then again, it might log enough miles to be with us a few more days. After all, it is somewhat entertaining to watch it sail between the boats at anchor. Scurv noticed the other day and started barking at it. Sailors find entertainment in simple ways.

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
