SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

Get Ready- Solomons
May 21, 2013
It is hard to believe that Memorial Day is upon us and that we are in our final stay in this wonderful marina. While we have visited points north of here before on land trips, we are looking forward to doing so by sea. Of the tasks yet to complete, we have a couple of oil changes and topping off fuel and water tanks. We decided to stay through Memorial Day then ease out of here on the tides sometime next week. Weather patterns seem to favor a day or two of good sailing and then a few days of fog, rain and winds. Thus, we hope to make Annapolis next week sometime. We may do so in the company of Rigel and Foile A Deux both of which are faster boats. Not sure how long that “in the company of” thing will last. Generally, it seem boats of like speed and like destinations seem to find each other but our preference is to do our own thing after a bit. Perhaps the migration of other boats, mostly Canadian and Loopers at this time, will keep us from stopping for an extended time somewhere. That has been the reason for our slow progress. There are so many spots to capture our interest that we are making haste slowly. So, the lure of the islands of New England is strong. We look forward to Nantucket, Martha’s Vinyard and the Great Salt Pond; to the whaling towns of Mystic and Old Saybrook and to the waters of the cold North Atlantic coast. The question is whether or not we foul on crab and lobster pots and how many. Outta here soon!

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
