SV Why Knot- No plan, no schedule, no destination.

The passing of my life mate has ended the cruise of Why Knot. Thanks to those that followed her voyages. It gave us wonderful memories and a heck of a life

Dreams in Works

Who: Bear (Jo) and Bligh (Howell) Cooper and Scurv
Port: Port Aransas, Texas
Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

TYPICAL DAY- MAYBE
May 24, 2013
What does a cruise boat crew all day in port? They get ready to go out again. It has been about a year since we did that so we are most anxious to get underway again by looking at the weather trends several days out, updating charts and notices to mariners and of course the ever present boat maintenance. Scurv has, we think, forgotten the underway part of this and he has doubled in age since his last sail.

The weather for the next three days is to be knarley. We are seeing 25 to 30 knots of wind and the bay has gale warnings. We expect to see nice weather next week so we will work toward a decision about when we leave this place.

Scurv hit a milestone today. While walking this morning, he fulfilled the primordial instinct of the killer being within. He caught a squirrel twice. I did not let him keep the critter for long since I was sure blood would be spilled most likely on the part of Scurv. Squirrels do not like dogs and they have sharp teeth. So no one got hurt but Scurv was ready to take it to the next level. It took a few minutes for him to calm down. Now he trained as head of security--- or not.

Crew duties today include another oil change, naps, installation of an inverter, naps, walks, naps, cleaning, naps and whatever else we get into. In some locations, a swim might be in order but not here this time of year. Meanwhile, Scurv and Bear are executing formal naps.
Memorial weekend is here and we remember and honor those who made it possible.

Why Knot left Texas in January of 2010 bound for no particular harbor. We made ports of call all around the Gulf Coast to the Keys then north up the Atlantic Coast and to the Abacos.
