Day four in Annapolis- This is one very interesting sailing community. Not sure but I think there are at least two very active yacht clubs here and they are huge by our home port standards. Boat yards here have built Skipjacks (sailing workboats of major importance during the day), Trumpys which are of the FDR Presidential type and during WWII many PT boats. This place hosts many world-class sailing events and one very active Wednesday night race fleet.
The crew of Why Knot spent several hours yesterday ashore. Bear and I took a tour trolley around town. This place was home to three Declaration of Independence signers. It has several unique architectural structures and it was actually the nation's capitol for a few months just after the Revolution. The area around the dinghy docks is the old town part of the city. Walking the narrow streets is to visit Revolutionary America. The shipbuilding is gone as is the working wharf but some of the houses and taverns are still here. A system of colored plaques designates historical significance of many of the buildings. A picture of one such building is above.
Today marks the longest time away from a power outlet in a very long time. Our old technology solar panels seem to keep up with the freezer demand although the freezer isn't due to the gaskets. That is a project for today. I have the parts but until now was missing the motivation. Missing motivation is one of the drawbacks to the cruising mindset unless it has to do with the safety of the boat.
I found local treasure this morning after Scurv's walk ashore. A small shop not two blocks from the dock has a huge display of Jelly Belly jellybeans by flavor. That just might make Bear's day. I can get into this hunter/gatherer stuff.
