Our greatest challenge was to actually bring in the dock
lines at our home port and get going. Next came the actual
act of living aboard which is way different than weekending or
the occasional extended sail. This is life avoiding causing your
mate to drop stuff or run into bulkheads. This is having so much
stuff aboard that one has to inventory. This is life without land
transportation in strange places. This is meeting folks and hating
to say good bye, then looking forward to the time when courses cross
again, to the surprise of seeing them at some unexpected place.

It has been some time since we had a westerly view of a sunset especially sailing down east. Now that we are in waters with a westerly exposure to the horizon, we have just had a wonderful sunset. It all started when we heard a conch shell note. That is a custom in the islands and it heralds the sun touching the horizon. That got us topside quickly as many boats in the anchorage started blowing horns. The scene was one of those that will make a ding in the memory hard drive. It is a way to bring in the evening as well as express thanks on a good day now gone. At the exact time of official twilight, a huge cannon fired on shore. Retire those colors, all, the day is done
