Delayed Final Leg
01 September 2014
Seems the hardest part of the cruise has been the last 160 nautical miles. After spending several weeks looking for a mechanic to install the injection pump only to decide to install it myself, we were ready to sail Why Knot the last leg of the cruise. I recruited three crew to enjoy a casual overnighter. A day before we were to go aboard, Bear had a diagnostic procedure to attempt yet another investigation for her ailments of the past three years. She has had about every test there is to rule out several possibilities. This one found the cause, a doozie ulcer. The test was out patient and we thought it would be safe to execute the sail plan. After a four hour drive to Houston to ready Why Knot, I could not raise Bear on the phone. A friend checked on her and found the real need to take an ambulance to the emergency room. The previous days procedure caused serious side effects which would require a day in the ICU and a day for observation. That event prompted an immediate cancellation of the sail and a quick trip home. There were good and bad parts of the events. The hospital thing forced cancellation of the final leg. The diagnostics resulted in what we think is the cause for Bears misery the past few years and it can be resolved. Thus Bear may well be healed. Why Knot will get back to her home port in due time. See, there is a reason to have no plan, no schedule and no destination. Bear is doing well and starting to recover quickly.
