Oban to Fort William

Once we were through the Corran narrows there was very little wind and 1kt of tide to help us along so it was out with the cruising chute (picture). I thought, it would be fun, exploring fort William, walking to the Caledonian canal to Jacobs ladder and along the lochs. Little did we know the direction of the wind, the rain and the tide meant once we were on the yacht club mooring (thankfully) we were surrounded by white horses (white spray on the waves) and being buffeted. Not to be deterred we got the dingy out, it looks very different when you are in a dingy, the final wave pushed us onto the shore but at the same time soaked Phil from head to foot. We walked to the shops at fort William, wind and rain was a constant, just to make us feel a little human we had a pizza and coffee, then it was back to the boat. My what a difference two hours makes, the boat was being pulled left and right, up and down. Phil managed to time it just right at the back where I managed to scramble back on, Phil did the same but we decided once the outboard engine was on the boat we would leave the dingy secured by two ropes floating at the stern. Thankfully we have a diesel heater so it was on with that and watching a drama on the iPad with sweets and chocolate to help moral!
