...and we are off!

James always has some great ideas and although we have been to the Garvellachs (stop over for lunch in the middle of the islands, as the main anchorage in the south of the islands was busy), I knew there must be something more to the islands we had missed.
What a find! We were standing amongst the ruins of the most complete earliest Christian monastery in Scotland, believed to be founded by St Brendan in the mid 6th century. The site consisted of a grave site, church site, cross base, st Columba's well, underground cell (for punishment, storage, and possibly ritual 'purgatory'), chapel and beehive cells(home for one or two people), just enough left of the ruins to understand where and what size the buildings were.
We also walked to the top of the hill, a beautiful sight of the Ross of Mull. To say we became very knowledgeable of the structure of the bracken, walking down from the top, would be an understatement, at times losing sight of one or other of our group, but great fun.
