Katrina Wright | Warm and sunny
Skipper and crew are arguing who will do today’s blog!! So here is his report:

Another foggy start to the day. Well all morning to be accurate. Well, sailing plans have to be fluid, so having lost the tide through Dorus Mor due to the delayed start, we cut the plan in half and just decided to return north to Ardinamir between Luing and Torsa (James had to be back in Kilmelford tomorrow to collect his new crew).
Exiting the bay we were greeted by a decent 12kts wind we enjoyed some really good free sailing (that’s going nowhere specific but enjoying the boat).
We tried a few new setups for the sails to learn more things about WINDSONG.
Firsts for Katrina were a single handed Gybe (turning the boat through the wind behind the boat) and a Hove to (stopping the boat and holding against the wind to just move slowly with the tide). Smiles all round, sun on our backs, 15 degrees is this really Scotland.
All the playing is quite tiring, so we just ran downwind on the main sail with a brew in hand to catch up with James (WD) before our anchor back in North bay, Shuna (we were going to move later to Ardinamir when the tide gave us enough water/draft to get in, but that never happened, told you it’s fluid).

And here’s mine!

Once at North Bay, Shuna, it was time to explore. James had been here before with his niece, there is a ruined castellated mansion (picture), built in 1911, it is said it’s architect once completing his commission, went down with the Titanic in 1912. The house fell in disrepair in the 1980s.
The island is covered in rough scrub, so to avoid a very uncomfortable walk James took us along the rocky shore, more rock hopping, hot and challenging but well worth it. The sad looking mansion could still be explored from the outside, lack of windows, blinds and most of the upper floors allowed an insight into how the mansion might have looked. We saw a Dilapidated car outside but inside there was a precarious toilet hanging from the first floor. In what I would presume was the living room a tv, open suitcase and a wooden structure which looked like a drinks cabinet (empty!), there was even a blind with quite a nice pattern which could be seen on the ledge. The view from the mansion was stunning, just crying out for new occupants but sadly also a new building.
