Vanessa and Ian

Katrina Wright | Foggy and then glorious!
So excited to have Vanessa and Ian arriving today, but first we needed to move from the Kererra marina to the Oban transit marina, easier said than done, thick thick fog! Plus the harbour is pretty busy with the cal Mac ferries and many many day tripper boats. The air was full of fog horns sounding, quite a scary sound, so although we needed desperately to buy provisions in Oban (no bread for three days - yikes! And using UHT milk, things were desperate ;)). They were due to arrive around 3pm, so around lunchtime the fog had lifted sufficiently to more or less make out Oban across the bay, so we made a dash for it!
We decided to go straight to the shops, with several bags in tow, we knew we would not be able to carry everything back to the boat so the plan was to get a taxi back, such a big mistake. No taxis available at the moment and they couldn’t guarantee when. So snaffling two Tesco’s trolleys we set off to cross Oban town centre, on a bank holiday weekend (uk holiday makers that is!). The wheels were wobbly and forget social distancing, we were totally shattered trying to negotiate the sloping pavements, dogs, bicycles (on the pavement!) and people who just expected that a trolley with a will of its own would miraculously jump out of the way! Plus the dirty looks we received, oh my giddy aunt, never again, but once the food was safely on the jetty I set off taking the trolleys back, not one set of wobbly wheels now but two! I turned my back for one minute and the trolleys with a mind and mood of their own separated company from one another and for one to shoot out, nearly hitting a passing car . Never again, but never let it be said that we are not responsible citizens and not one of the thousand of abandoned trolleys is down to us!
It is so hard to travel 6hrs (turning into 7+hrs), especially with bank holiday traffic! So we were doubly grateful to see them arrive safe and sound. So it was a quick intro to the boat(they, quite sensibly had booked a hotel room) and we went off for the Scottish delicacy, called “an Indian”, nowhere, absolutely nowhere had a table, so it was the Oban Taj Mahal, and it was a fantastic meal, rounded off with a visit to a local pub, joining in with the impromptu singing, hic! No pictures from today , too excited to remember the camera! So just a lovely picture of seals taken earlier this week.
