Into La Paz, Mexico
24 March 2018 | Marina Palmira, La Paz, Mexico
Bill/warm and over cast
Well, we finally made it into Marina Palmira in La Paz yesterday morning and got settled in quickly. Plan on staying about a week if we can get all our chores done. We have an electrician coming on Wednesday as we have a couple of power problems on board and I want them fixed before we take off.
The marina has changed a bit since we were here in 2010 and it's much better organized with lots more amenities--Swimming pool, shuttles into town, restaurants, club house, etc. Costs a bit more if our memory is any good but nice people. Made us feel welcome and had two men at the dock as we came in and helped us tie up. We had a nice lunch at one of the restaurants here at the marina and stopped in to finally meet Rich Boren, the man who is in currently running the La Paz Cruisers Supply here at the marina. We've followed his blog(Third Day) for years and have talked from time to time when I had questions about one of his other businesses(Cool Blue Technautics)that made our fridge/freezer back in 2009. Great guy and he had the parts we had ordered through his company when we arrived. It's one of the reasons we stopped out at the islands for a week before coming in to the marina.
We caught one of the shuttles to town and hit the ATM as we needed more Pesos to pay for the parts he brought in plus we wanted to get some fresh fruits and veggies to have on board. We stayed away from most of the canned foods as have tons still on board that we want to go through before we park Zephyr on the hard in a few months. I finally found some canned Mandarin oranges that have eluded me since we hit the Pacific Ocean. Not available anywhere along the mainland coast.
Today, we will be changing out another zinc that's on the engine and not the one attached to the prop that we changed a few days ago, plus start and run the engine till it's nice and hot and then suck out the oil and get it changed. Can be a messy job so I'll be wearing my "work" clothes as well as an apron. One of the things we had Rich bring in was a new oil extractor pump as our last one died after about 9 years and many oil changes. This new one looks much better but I'll let you know.
TIme to get back to work so we can relax a bit this after noon. Tomorrow, it's time to rip out the failed macerator in the forward head. Boy, sure sounds like fun?
