Crocs in storage and BRRR!
12 October 2018 | Aurora, Colorado
Bill/sunny and warm for a change.
Well my Crocs are pretty much a thing of the past as far as this year goes. I still wear them from time to time for short walks to the mail box but other than that, I’m reduced to shoes and SOCKS!!! I haven’t been in shoes for over two years. The shoes we keep on the boat had their soles fall off the last time we tried to wear them. What I’m wearing now are the first shoes I’ve bought in many years. The Crocs are waiting for spring. It’s been so cold here that were both now in shoes, socks, long pants and sweaters. We saw our first snow a couple days ago. Lots of white!
Now as to our “cluster F”,well it continues. The workmen showed up yesterday morning with an appliance dolly and took out the washer and dryer. I looked in the laundry room once they were out, I looked at the floor and guess what I saw? More WATER damage. The floor was soaked out about 5 inches from the wall and a span of about two feet!!! Not going to install the new vinyl on a wet floor. The company called a plumber and a short time later he showed up and started inspecting our system. It took a while but the diagnosis was that water was leaking out of the tops of the hot and cold faucet for the washer, I have a feeling the man that disconnected the washer spilled some of the water from the washer hose. As the plumber was working on the fittings, we ran around the house turning on the faucets to drain the lines and then back off to see if there were any new leaks at the washers connections. It took a while but Marco the plumber got it all fixed(we hope). Meanwhile the other workers were cutting the new subfloor to go under the vinyl and cutting the moulding to be nailed on once the floor was installed. It got painted and is sitting in the garage. A few hours later, everyone took off and here we sit with our washer and dryer now in our dining room. Sure glad Tracy did laundry the night before.
About mid morning today, two workers showed up and installed the blowers and another dehumidifier in the laundry room. Now we get to listen to it all weekend. We did at least take some time and remove all the cans of food in the room. We also took out the Bounce. It had been fused into a solid block the last time they ran the dehumidifier due to the heat the machine puts out. We also took out the Tide liquid soap as it had almost burst the last time.
So here we sit, blowers blowing again driving up our electrical bill. The last time we ran these, it doubled our electric bill.
This afternoon, we blew out the left over water in our sprinkler system for the yard. I’d already drained the main system a few days ago when the temp dipped to the low 30s. Sunday, it’s supposed to get down to just 15!!!! We haven’t seen or felt temps like that in years. We might even get three inches of snow. The weather people aren’t sure yet. Hedging their bets.
I’ll let you know next week how this saga plays out.
