A Long Leg South

Quiet Waters at Yankee Jack's
November 25th - Bundaberg to Yankee Jack's.
The need to return to civilisation was becoming strong amongst some of us!
Thus it was that at 5.00 am we headed out of the Burnett River for the long haul across Hervey Bay towards the Great Sandy Straits. It was a motoring type day with only a 5/7 knot zephyr of a wind from the NE.
Molokai was ahead of us and Soul behind.
Only two things struck me as noteworthy during the passage. Firstly, it was so calm that I was able to read all day with the autopilot doing the work and secondly the geography of Hervey Bay is such that for a while you lose all sight of land. Despite the latter we still came across flies, interesting, I must read up about their range!
Eleven hours and 68 NM later we dropped anchor in a spot known either as North White Cliffs or more evocatively Yankee Jack's Creek. As you can see from the photo the water was velvet like and perfect for an overnight stay. We had expected a mossie invasion and quickly put all the screens up, but were rewarded with a bite free night.
