East London to Port Elizabeth
09 February 2015 | Port Elizabeth
Light winds at start and finish, 3,5 m NE swell with 4 sec period overnight with 10-16 knots North easterly wind
We are now in PE. Very little or no wind at the beginning and end of the journey. Same old messy sea during the night with 12-16 knot NE wind, otherwise really nice weather. Dolphins, penguins and a turtle underway and even a whale near PE. Left East London at 09h30, entered PE at 10h00. 131 NM in 24 hrs. That's a 5,2 knot average. At one stage we had 4 sails up to try and get more speed. Genoa Main, Mizzen, Mizzen Stay Sail.
Peter Bean and his wife Jenny took us to their private game reserve for a fantastic game drive, tea and dinner today. What an absolute highlight! See http://schotiasafaris.co.za/about.htm for more details of this absolutely amazing place.
Peter owns Sea Wolf one of just 5 steel Lello 48's still in existence. How amazing to find another Lello right opposite where we docked in PE!
We plan to sail to Mossel Bay on the next weather window. Will probably leave leave late tomorrow afternoon or Early Thursday Morning. Must be in Mossel Bay before Saturday noon.
