We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

Steven
After a two very stormy nights (thunder & lightning), we departed early on passage to Burriana.

With no wind and with George the iron donkey on, we motored all the way.
We passed the large industrial port of Sagunta mid-morning and arrived in Burriana at lunchtime.

The port of Burriana was separate from the main town about 2 miles away and having experienced our most expensive port only some 4 marinas ago in Denia, we were amazed at Burriana's pricing at a mere 13 euro a night with a buy 2 get the third free offer as well. The marina staff were very friendly and helpful.

The port had both a good size marina and yacht club with a very active sailing/water sports school adjacent to the club. We enjoyed watching the youngsters being given their daily tuition in the surrounding waters.
There is a small shipyard which to be honest, is not noticeable and the prevailing wind stops any noise coming into the marina.

The water is very a beautiful turquoise colour. We later believe this may be due to the copper content being added by the shipyard works in blasting the old antifoul off the shipping. We believe this helped removed any growth from Symphony as our boat speed increased after our stay.

The small town is a poor in regards to wealth but the people were friendly, the food purchased was of good quality and great value. It is a strange place to be but enjoyed our stay.
