Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

Choice of three – and the race is on!

Steven
This morning we set about topping up the water and food prior to setting off towards Colonia de Sant Jordi. We are still at anchor so this entails using our tender, carrying everything in containers and shopping bags and bringing it back to Symphony.

We have today selected three possible anchoring locations to move to.

The passage started with a gentle wind and little med chop, however, as the afternoon progressed the chop increased and we are having to tack around the headlands towards our proposed destinations. In this race is a German and French yacht. As the wind was favourable, we continued to sail whilst others (German and French Yacht) were resorting to the iron donkey, as such the passage took a little longer than anticipated. We classed them as DNF (DID NOT FINISH) due to the use of engines and declared ourselves the winners!

A dinner of chops and chips, marinated with ketchup was served underway as our reward.

On approach, we selected the second of our three anchorages off the Playa Es Trenc. This is a 2km long beach of golden sand. There must have been approximately 70 boats of all shapes and sizes anchored along the shore.

This is a stunning location with perfectly clearly turquoise water and golden sand as far as the eye can see.
