Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

Far from the madding crowd

We took the dinghy shore to the landing stage to explore the island. We walked up to the castle and into the the castle tower (the only place we could pick up enough signal to get the weather forecast!).

The island was teeming with life including various rare black lizards (Wall Lizards), rare birds (Eleneonara's & Peregrine Falcons) and many species of fish.

As we had only booked for one night, we left shortly after lunchtime but this was definitely a highlight so far.

The wind was light but sailable for Symphony
who is definitely in her element in these climes. We sailed half the passage before the wind reduced to only force 1 and we were forced to use the engine.

Initially, we investigated the harbour in Cala Figuera but this was a very narrow, rocky inlet with passing fishing and charter boats and the only two possible locations to anchor were already occupied by boats who had even taken lines ashore to prevent them from swinging at anchor into the channel.

We motored on for a mile and to the delightful Cala Mondrago. A small holiday resort with two sandy beaches at its head centered in the Parc Naturel Mondrago.

It was too good an opportunity to miss for swimming in the crystal clear water and Steven even used his new hull brush to give Symphony's bottom a bit of a scrub.
