Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

Good nights sleep and only us here!

21 June 2019 | Cala Canyamel
Steven
The forecast in the next few days is predicting another blow and some quite high swell in the anchorages on the SE side of the island. We need to continue promptly north along Mallorca's east coast as safety and security have to come first in sailing.

By mid-morning in Cala Mondrago, we were surrounded by expensive motorboats (Large Sunseekers) and even a glass bottom tripper boat so when weighing anchor we gently motored out between the tighter gaps and set out for our next anchorage.

Again there was little wind, but we did manage an hour of really good sailing mid passage. We anchored in Cala Nau close to the beach of Cala Millor and reviewed the weather forecast prior to settling in for the evening. The forecast indicated the wind would move to NE overnight and this would make where we are uncomfortable.

There is another anchorage around the next headland which will provide us a better nights sleep as we can tuck into the lee of the cliffs. We had a quick drink, weighed anchor and headed for Cala Canyamel.

We were delighted with our choice especially as the wind came in a little later from the North East from which we were well protected.
Cala Canyamel is a small Cala with only two to three small hotels and on each side of the bay are luxurious villas.

The photographs do not do it justice. It is one of the best Cala's we have been in.

Simply stunning and peaceful, we will stay for a couple of days here.
