Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

A round up of our Balearic Islands and Western Mediterranean Spain Cruise

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

D'tun for lunch - the one that got away

29 June 2019 | Puerto De Soller
Lisa
A slightly earlier start today (island hopping makes you lazy especially when there is no tide to consider).

We made a short passage today to Soller, which used to be the centre of orange growing in Spain before Valencia took over that role.

Once anchored, Steven prepared the dinghy to go ashore, as he was tying it off there was a splashing from beneath and a startled Sardinas trying to make a prompt getaway from what we later learnt was a D'tun which looked like a medium size tuna when it was diving around the dinghy and rocking it about under Steven. The D'tun did manage to catch the unfortunate sardinas and peace was one again restored.

A short dinghy trip ashore in the morning to top up supplies and sample the local Helado de Naranja (orange ice-cream).

After lunch, we decided to visit the town of Soller itself. We chose to forego the little tram and walk into Soller. Following Google's suggestion to begin with we came upon the signage for the GR221 footpath and followed that instead. It is a lightly challenging walk which took us up and over the hills surrounding Soller and through the old orange and lemon groves still full of trees hung with ripe fruit.

In Soller, we saw the church which had been designed by a student of Antoni Gaudi along with the façade of the neighbouring bank building.

Additionally, thanks to Lonely Planet, we knew that there were two free exhibitions in the train station, one of Joan Miro's paintings, two of which were on old sails and the other of Picasso's ceramics. The ceramics were of particular interest with their bright vibrant colours and typical Picasso imagery. There were many photos of the two great artists together in the exhibitions. All free and only one other couple and us viewing.

As the heat of the day was upon us, we chose to take the easy route back and opted for the bus ride - a mere 5 minutes!
