Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

Biggest Taxi ever

02 July 2019 | Cuitadella
Steven
Despite our late night yesterday, Lisa had discovered we could reach Cuitadella, the old capital of Menorca by bus from the beach.

We took the dinghy ashore and having asked the gentleman renting out kayaks where we could find the bus stop felt comfortable that the dinghy would be safe with him keeping an eye on it.

On reaching the bus stop in the middle of a dusty car park, we noticed they stated the buses were only minibuses and would sometimes need to be booked, however, another gentleman arrived who was clearly in charge of the parking so we inquired of him whether this would be a problem and he said possibly in August but gently laughed as to why we would need to book now.

When the bus arrived, we could see why as it was a normal sized coach style bus and we were the only two people going into Cuitadella it was like having our own private taxi.

The very narrow road was controlled to enable the bus to drive through unimpeded as there were no passing places. A great winding bus ride with a very friendly driver with a plethora of smiles.

Cuitadella is a very compact city sited around the harbour with old army barracks and parade squares. We treated ourselves to local Menorcan pies (Formatjades) filled with Pollo (Chicken) and two large Ensaimadas. I tasted the samples of local cheeses and meats on offer at the counter to provide a three course lunch!

It only took us an hour or so to walk round and then it was back on the bus, by now very busy bus with 6 passengers this time including us and the same bus driver!

On the return journey, we saw sea eagles soaring over the coast which was a real delight.

When we arrived back to Symphony, we had to politely ask another yacht to move as they were anchored with only a dinghy's width between them and us.

We are now in holiday season and the anchorages are going to be getting even busier.
