Hasta luego Symphony, muchas gracias, love Steven & Lisa xx

We have returned to Spain to meet the new owners of Symphony, Arek and Iwona, to run through all her systems.

We're back, overalls in hand!

As quick reminder, at the end of the season in 2019, we decided Symphony would be put on the market and we would start the process of buying/fitting out a blue water yacht to head off into the yonder. Well, what with Covid-19, the restrictive lockdowns over the last two years and life in general we have [...]

Our month at Sant Carles

Well, it is true to say, August in the Western Mediterranean becomes very, very busy and expensive. The Balearic Islands during this time are infiltrated with French & Italians all willing to pay vast amounts of euros to stay anywhere here. Even the mainland, north above Barcelona, leans to French Riviera [...]

Dia de Arroz

Dia de Arroz translates to "day of the rice" and is essentially Sant Carles De La Rapita's harvest festival.

What a feast & Steven becomes an apprentice

Not content with taking us out on their boat, Jordi and Rosa kindly invited us to their home to celebrate the Fiesta de Santa Rosa.

04 July 2019 | Cala Macarella & Cala Santa Galdana
Lisa
After breakfast, we decided to begin transiting the south coast towards Mahon taking a look into some of the other Calas along the route.

We decided to take a lunch stop in the extremely popular Cala Macarella there must have been at least 30 small 'rent-a-boat' motor boats along with several cruising mono hulls and catamarans.

Too busy for us for an overnight stay, so we pressed on with the intention of making our way to Cala Binibeca however after only 45 mnutes we took a look at Cala Santa Galdana and it offered the protection we needed for the night and the chance to pop ashore for a few basic supplies.

With the hook down, we went ashore to dispose of the rubbish and get a loaf of bread.

Despite having checked with the gentleman running the 'rent-a-boats' on the beach where we could leave our dinghy on our return we were lightly told off by one of the lifeguards as he told us we should have left it on the wall and only been allowed to stay for 5 minutes (it took 10 minutes walk just to reach the supermarket which we politely explained to him), perhaps the heat is making people less friendly!

Ironically, once he had finished his work for the day and took the rib back in the small harbour he gave us a very friendly smile and wave. Steven said he had experienced the gestures of Latin people before over the years here. They rant and wave their arms about for no real purpose. It is lovely to watch though and when they do calm down it is normally handshakes and pats on the backs with big smiles!

The Cala itself offers reasonable facilities albeit prices here are more expensive. Whilst being a holiday town and a little more built up it has still kept its Menorca charm.

Steven is on his third pair of sunglasses! The lens coating on the two pairs of his Oakley's have come off (his words are for sports glasses these are rubbish). He has decided to buy a cheap pair like the locals and see how he gets on with these. So far so good! Last year, it was three watches, this year it is sunglasses.
