Life's a beach!
14 November 2010 | Carolina Beach, NC
A total beach day! After sleeping quite late to compensate for getting up at 2am to re-set our anchor (we were swinging into water that would become too shallow when the tide went out) we had a leisurely morning before we sternly informed Scourge that he was in command and then piled into the dingy and drove a kilometer in to the town dock at the end of the basin.
After lunch at a Mexican place, we walked over the boardwalk to the beach and spent hours sitting and watching the waves, digging and sculpting sand, and dodging waves with varying degrees of success. Evelyn and Leslie created an instant tourist attraction by sculpting a Loch Ness Monster-like series of mounds and head that drew remarks from many of the people who walked by. One group even took pictures of each other next to it!
Eventually the sun got lower and we dragged Leslie out of the water and found outdoor showers to remove the worst of the sand. Walking back to dingy, we satisfied a candy craving at a really fun little shop and then had a long ride back to Northern Symphony during which one could clearly hear the crunching of caramel popcorn over the quiet electric dingy motor. By the time we were back on board, Evelyn and Leslie were all but falling over from tiredness....nothing like a sunny day at the beach to really tire one out!
We ran out of propane in the middle dinner preparations but, after packing the half-cooked vegetables into the refrigerator, we snapped on the inverter and used the microwave to cook up burritos for dinner...our second Mexican meal today. As with most things on Northern Symphony, even our cooking system has a back-up system.
