Inlets & Bridges

Yesterday was a day of inlets and bridges. Often, the inlets can be quite challenging: the currents can be quite strong, which is the cause of the other challenge - shoaling. Fortunately, all three inlets we went through had good depths and the currents weren't bad.
We also had a few bridges to contend with, one of which was supposed to be kept in the open position because it had just been replaced with a fixed high clearance bridge. Oddly, although the new bridge definitely had traffic on it, the old pontoon bridge was still in place and opening only on the hour.
The scenery was mostly highly developed areas with large, colorful houses sporting long docks (to reach deep water) and boats, most of which were on lifts holding them out of the water. The lighthouse in the photo is actually a fake marking the entrance to a marina.
We spent today here in Myrtle Beach partly to visit the Barefoot Landing shopping area, and partly to wait out some rainy weather, which actually didn't happen. So Evelyn and Leslie spent the morning on schoolwork, while Colin did his work, and I went to a supermarket to exchange our propane tank and get groceries. In the afternoon, Evelyn, Leslie, and I poked around the shops, which are eerily deserted at this time of year. But we enjoyed ourselves, including a ride on the carousel.
Having procured propane, I was able to finish making the chowder I started in Carolina Beach. It was none the worse for the delay.
