Sailing and other travels

O’Pedrouzo to Santiago

28 May 2018
Left at 5am this morning, walked thru the woods in the pitch dark. We had a little over 12 miles to walk to get to Santiago. The last few days the trails have been packed with people. This morning we did not see anyone else until we were by the airport in Santiago. We made it! We finished the Camino when we arrived in Santiago this morning. Walked all 493 miles of it! What an amazing feeling and adventure we have been on.

Cemetery

Even the smallest villages have cemeteries, usually against the church or on a hilltop above the church. Families often have their own crypts.

Fonfria to Arzúa

26 May 2018
Today was our last long walk of the Camino - 18.3 miles. Only 37 km left to go! We have been so fortunate with the weather - the last few days they were predicting rain all day and we only had a few sprinkles today.

Vega de Valcarce to Fonfria

22 May 2018
Today was another beautiful day in the mountains. We had a very steep climb to O'Cebreiro - the views from the top of this mountain were really nice. Cheryl has been taking way too many pictures - but everywhere you look it is so amazing. We walked a little less than 15 miles today. They are predicting rain for the next week - we sure hope the weatherman is wrong! We have now entered Galatia, which (surprisingly to us) is a Celtic region. The music is clearly Celtic, and there are many round, thatched huts. We are now back in a livestock area too, having to get out of they way of cattle walking through villages several times.

Cacabelos to Vega de Valcarce

21 May 2018
Pretty much all walking along roads today, except for about 4 miles through vineyards. The hills are getting bigger again but the views are great. Cheryl picked out the vineyard that we need to buy and retire to. Finally after nearly a month of great weather, we had a really nice day but spent too much time taking breaks and socializing, and we got caught in a downpour with 2 miles to go. It was buckets of rain on us. Other than footwear which was soaked, we came out pretty dry. We ended up sitting outside again for dinner/drinks.

Molinaseca to Cacabelos

20 May 2018
Today’s walk was just short of 15 miles. The first town we went thru Ponferrada had a beautiful Knights Templar Castle. Once again we had great weather and great views - the mountains are amazing, we also went thru an area with lots of vineyards.
