A Picture Postcard
12 July 2007 | Camden, ME
Kim
We arrived at Camden, ME two days ago from Christmas Cove in good spirits - after all, the fog had cleared! We had spent the majority of the passage in for too thick to see more than a couple hundred feet in front of the bow. The forecast had said "patchy fog", but we had (unfortunately) forgotten that in Maine that means heavy fog with small, less-foggy patches!
Luckily the fog cleared as we approached Camden and it turned into a beautiful afternoon and evening. Camden is a small charming town whose main source of income is in the form of tourists. As such, the small inner harbour is packed with recreational boats and traditional schooners. Camden is home to about half of Maine's fleet of working schooners that do anywhere from day to trips to weeklong cruises. (Dave's had his camera out constantly!) Camden is everyone's image of a beautiful postcard image town in Maine.
We spent the rest of the first day here showering and going into town for dinner at the Waterfront Restaurant, a locally popular place with a great view. Yesterday we spent a day on the boat, although Kaela and Dave went into town for groceries and the oh-so essentially pasteries from the town bakery. Today we went into town and shopped for around two hours before having dinner at Fitzpatrick's Cafe--a wonderful eclectic restaurant with an emphasis on Maine seafood and Thai dishes. We actually spent almost three hours there, talking with the chefs, waitresses, and band, the majority of whom were either serious sailors or interested in cruising!
