Johan:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have always have been fascinated by remote islands. [...]One day I watched a TV report on yachting, and how much it would cost to buy a yacht. It looked within the realm of possibilities. What followed were some RYA courses, and then some flotilla and bareboat charter vacations in the Greek islands. Then a health crisis in 2015 made it clear that life was finite, so a boat was bought (Jeanneau Attalia 32 of 1984) and with that experience was obtained with boat maintenance and ownership, while the boat was used to make some off shore (200 nm) passages. Then it became clear that such boat would not suffice to visit some really remote islands, so it was sold in early 2020, and the search for a new a new boat was seriously started. In the beginning we were looking for a monohull - catamarans were expensive and sailing them did not seem to be "real sailing". But then the realities of improved comfort and safety sank in, and after some relaxation of financial conservatism the Kaia was bought in November 2020, So now we are going for the "remote islands"....

Ruth:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Johan's life partner, Ruth always liked to travel. Was adventurous enough to join Johan in several RYA courses (achieved "Competent Crew"), and really. really liked the sailing in the Greek islands. Was less enthusiastic about sailing the Attalia in the open seas, Still wants to give it a chance, and agreed to join Johan on the Kaia for the first leg with the ARC+ 2021 to Grenada, and after that on the second leg to Panama, and has now finally decided that long passages, as well as long periods away from home and family are not for her. She may join Johan on selected shorter passages in the future.

ITINERARY AND SCHEDULE
We have participated in the ARC + rally which took place November/December 2021 and reached the island of Grenada on the South side of the Caribbean sea in December. After a return home we returned in January 2022 for the next leg to Panama, joined by Johan's daughter [...]
Offira, partner Amir and Geva, Dror and Hadar. Offira and family left the party in Santa Marta, Colombia, to go their own way on the shore, and we continued via the San Blas Islands to Colon, Panama, where the Kaia is now stored on the hard, in the Shelter Bay marina.
All this is documented in this blog.
What happens after that remains to be seen - Johan envisions continuing the full world circumnavigation in beginning 2023, and will be looking for crew to join him on that.
