False start - back at another Border control point!
28 November 2017 | Burnett River Heads
After 10 weeks of hard work getting Tangaloa 'ready for sea' we were excited to be clearing Customs and heading north. So I'm sure you can imagine our frustration of having to turn west after only three and half days of sailing northeast due to a steering problem. Even more disappointing is the fact that we have now missed our late season weather window which would of allowed us to sail to 8 degrees south to miss the now imminent cyclone season.
As we write this blog update, Tangaloa is swinging at anchor to the flooding and ebbing tides of the Burnett River Heads. Our steering is repaired,so what do we do now that our plans have suddenly changed...?
Despite our disappointment we remain philosophical, we will think about the numerous possibilities that have now presented themselves given we can no longer head off shore this year.
In the meantime......we'll sail across to Fraser Island (the worlds largest sand island) to take advantage of sheltered anchorages near the NE corner of the island. These sometimes exposed and swell affected locations should give us a great opportunity to explore some of most beautiful beaches on the Island along with bush-walking up freshwater streams into the islands unique sand lakes and generally enjoying the landscape.
Cheers for now - the crew of Tangaloa :-)
