From the free anchorage to the expensive!
15 November 2010 | Puerto Los Cabos Marina
Fred
We had a very nice run down to Cabo from Bahia Santa Maria. We left about 0800 on Nov. 12 in clear skies, no wind and flat seas. Pretty much stayed that way for the next 24 hours with us motoring all the way down. We tried to fish on the way down but the fish weren't cooperating.
We got to Cabo Falso just after sunrise which I think is the best time to arrive. The last time Al was in Cabo was in 1982 so he was amazed at the hotel development on the beach. It has changed since I was there 2 years ago! We went by Cabo and cruised up the coast past Palmilla and into the new marina at Puerto Los Cabos arriving at 10:30. We were given a slip assignment and met by the security guard and I went to the office and presented my paperwork and most importantly my credit card. The nightly slip rent is $2.00 per foot which is half price from Cabo but twice the price of other marinas. The facility is quite nice and we got the boat washed down and cleaned up and then went to have lunch at the Container. Now someone was really thinking and took an old container and turned it into a bar and restaurant. It has a beautiful deck and awesome view and really good food.
At happy hour with Jim and Diane I met Mark who owns an 85' expedition yacht, Quan Yin. I was telling my story about my broken dinghy wheel and Mark said that he had a full machine shop on board and could weld anything and to bring it down. So the next morning I took the bent and broken part down to Quan Yin where Penny and I met Mark's lovely wife Susan and were given a tour of the boat. It was magnificent! Mark showed up in about 10 minutes with a straight part and he did such a good job that there were no weld marks on it! Turned out he had a spare one on board that he gave me and said I owed him a beer. That is the great thing about the cruising community.
We got a ride into town with Don one of the owners of Tommy's Barefoot Restaurant and he toured us through San Jose de Cabo. Quite a nice, clean and beautiful city. It has a great Art District and some good looking restaurants. We found the Baja Brewing Company and Al and I had a root beer and Penny had a blonde beer with mango in it! All were quite good.
Back to the boat and off to my birthday dinner at Tommy's where we had fresh Dorado, the one that I didn't catch. One of the best meals that we have had so far. So we will not go hungary in Mexico it seems, in fact I may have to start watching my weight.
Today we are off to San Jose to do laundry, sightsee, go to the Mega store and probaby eat. More tomorrow.
