Rock to the Dock

I paid some of my dues by volunteering to help the race committee for the Rock to the Dock race. Our committee boat a 16' panga with an air horn, which I supplied and my stopwatch. No flags, just a horn and VHF radio. We set the start line off of Los Islotes Rock between the light and an inflatable mark that we had and the finish was at the municipal pier in town, thus the name Rock to the Dock. It was a light downwind start for 8 boats and they sailed down the channel to the finish. We ran alongside and took photos and set up the finish line. On the way to the dock we came across a capsized small sailboat and we stopped to help. We had to break off to finish the first 2 boats and then went back and resumed our rescue duties.
All in all a nice long day on the water and the weather was beautiful as it seems to always be in La Paz. Alas, but we are leaving tomorrow morning for Los Muertos and then to cross the Sea of Cortes to Mazatlan, a distance of 190 miles. This will be the first long passage for just the two of us. The weather looks like it will be perfect power boat weather with little or no wind. Just our luck! The weather man is not always right so we shall see. Will post the results probably when we get to Mazatlan.
We have really enjoyed our stay in La Paz and have met some really nice people that we now call friends. We are looking forward to our return to La Paz in late March but we are also looking forward to new places to see starting with Mazatlan and then heading south to Manzanillo.
