Making the Southern Crossing to La Paz
20 March 2011 | In the Middle of the Sea of Cortez
Fred
We left Mazatlan at 6:30 Saturday night on the advice of Commander's Weather and we had a beautiful full moon night with calm seas and light winds. Dry and warm and a perfect first half crossing. We are now about 85 miles from Muertos where we should arrive around 8 PM tonight and we will anchor and get a good nights sleep and then head up the Cervalo Channel to La Paz early in the morning to avoid any strong wind.
Our 15 year old autopilot has finally decided that it may have had enough as the control head is acting up. The display blanks out but I can finesse it to go onto auto, just can't change course without losing it so it looks like time for a replacement. I will call Raymarine on Monday to see what new model will fit with our system and have it brought down to La Paz. Hopefully it will be an easy install but you never know.
More later when we get into La Paz. We are looking forward to seeing our friends there and exploring the Sea of Cortez.
