VIRUS!!!

01 April 2011 | La Paz
Fred
No we havn't forgotten to post, just that we got another damn virus when we got to La Paz. Similar to the one we got when we were here in November it does a scan of your computer and says that you have many infections and to buy this software to fix it. It is a scam to get money and it won't fix it. Al and I spent 3 hours trying to fix it and finally found that downloading Malwarebytes fixed it. So hopefully it is gone for good.

We have been enjoying La Paz and seeing old friends and meeting new ones and revisting the great restaurants. I ate lunch at Tacos Fish 5 days straight! Starting to breath through my ears.

We had some family in, George, Debbie, Austin and Carter from Temecula are in La Paz on vacation so we managed to use up 4 days of their time with us. We did take them to Puerto Balandra for an overnight and it was fun and the water warm but should still be warming up. While we were there a boat was entering the area and it was just getting dark. I noticed that they were headed right for the reef on the south side but before I could get to the radio I saw them shine a light on the buoy so I thought they would correct course. But no, they kept coming and bam! they hit it. They put out a Pan Pan on the radio and I responded and suggested that they try to call the Mexican Navy as he needed a power boat to tow him off. We could do nothing to help him as a 10 horse dingy would not do it and it was dark and I wasn't going to put my crew and boat in harms way.

At about 10PM I went on deck as I heard some noise and he had gotten off as it was high tide. It was windy and he was trying to anchor in front of me and I felt he was a little to close so I told him so on the radio. I checked an hour later and he was nowhere to be found. No masts were sticking out of the water in the morning so I assume he headed out somewhere. He said his GPS was off but in reality it was the chart that was off as the Mexican charts are off a mile or so and you have to be really careful. Coming into a strange harbor or cove at night is risky at best so we just don't do it.

We are moving off the boat and into a small pension for a week while our partners Bob and Kira come down for a week to use the boat. Trying to put away 6 months of stuff to make room and pack up what we need for a week is a challenge. I let Penny handle that while I polished the hull. We will participate in La Paz Bay Fest during the week so we will have plenty of things to do. I am on race committee on Thursday and then it is Cribbage tournaments and seminars. Should be fun.

Today was Tapatai's day for making coffee at the clubhouse and since I was a rookie I got some help from Rocky. My coffee making time with our Airstream group was a great help and I was complimented on my coffee so I guess I didn't screw it up. You also sell t-shirts, hats and flags and check in and out DVD movies so you are quite busy for the hour of coffee and shop time. It was fun and I expect I will do it again.

All for now.

Tapatai's Photos - Main
We left San Diego on January 16, heading South al gusto - with a sketchy plan written in sand at low tide (that is a quote from my buddy Ellen Gallant!) Mexico lends itself to beautiful photos which we will try to honor.
