What? Rain in La Paz!
14 December 2012 | La Paz
Fred/Wet
Hard to believe, but we have had rain for the last day and night and not just a little but enough that we had to move or morning cribbage inside the club house after I got doused by a puddle in the canopy above me. Cold water too. La Paz was not built with rain in mind as there are no storm drains so all the water comes down the streets and in the bay. Our beautiful clear water all of a sudden is the color of mud. So it was a rainy day schedule with dinner on board (Penny had been cooking a pot of beans all day) and watching a couple episodes of old Red Skelton shows and then in bed and reading.
This morning no rain but cool so I had to wear long sleeves. Again a major cribbage tournament this morning and then lunch at La Fonda for the comida corrida. $50 pesos ($4.00) got you a big bowl of pasta soup, a main course of carne asada with potatoes, rice and beans and a cup of jello for desert. No need for dinner tonight as we ate at 1:00.
We decided to go see the new Hobbit movie in 3d at the new Cineopolis theater at 3pm so we went early and walked the new Liverpool shopping center. Has a lot of US influence in its design but each shop is built on a podium that is about 6 inchs high so you have to step up to each shop. No handicap ramps but a trip and fall attorney's dream. Of course this is a personal responsibility state so they don't exist as we know it. A must stop was the Dairy Queen for a strawberry sundae. Lots of vacancy as this place just opened last year.
The movie was in 3D, in the MegaX theatre with a screen that was at least 30 feet by 60 feet and the sound system was 13,000 watts. Great stadium seating with reclining chairs and your own armrests that you don't have to share! The movie was in english with spanish subtitles and was pretty good. The best part was the cost of admission was $57 pesos, about $4.50 US. Can't get a coke for that at home. We will definitely go back.
Penny is homesick so she is going to fly home on Sunday and will be gone for a week. So I will be with my other spouseless buddies, Al and Joe.
